We all woke up around 6ish from the howler monkeys calling out to one another. As we started off with circle and breakfast we experienced our first full day at CIRENAS. After breakfast we split up into two groups, horseback riding and a nature hike. For horseback riding, we drove to the equestrian center, got on our horses, and rode on beautiful trails. To end it, we rode our horses on the beach. We then got back in the truck and drove back to campus. We stopped to cut down some fruit, Guanabana, which is called sour sap in English. For the hike we left and hiked across the beach to the forest and river, where we encountered many different species of plants and animals.
We even saw a crocodile. The hike was about 4-5 miles, and at the end we stopped at the ranger station to get some coconut water. After the activities, we had some free time for kayaking and yoga. To end the day we went to the beach to swim in the ocean and play some beach soccer. Francisco also taught us about the dangers of deforestation and human interaction with nature. Before bed we all sat and watched the stars.
